Liriodendron tulipifera - The Tulip Tree
Liriodendron tulipifera is the well known Tulip tree, a wonderful flowering deciduous tree from North America. Attractive large mid to deep green foliage and those large tulip shaped flowers make this a must have tree for any large garden. When in full flower in early summer this is a magnificent specimen tree.
These are a tree that do not like to be disturbed, many gardeners who have needed to transplant them have found that they sulk, or even worse just die, so plant it and leave it alone.
Liriodendron tulipifera Care
A reasonably fast growing tree, plant in a sunny position in a good rich soil. Remember that these trees can reach 20 - 30m in height, so plat appropriately. Provide support when young, otherwise little care is required and only remedial pruning of dead or damaged wood.
