Begonia tubers and plants

The three main varieties are :

Begonias make great house plants and some forms do well in hanging baskets.

Growing Begonia Plants in the UK

Begonias with over 1500 different species are a diverse group of plants and are of sub tropical and tropical origin. Tuberous begonias are grown from tubers and used widely as pot plants or container plants. Cane begonias have bamboo like stems. Shrub begonias are a more bushy form. Rhizomatous begonias are grown for their foliage. Rex begonias are probably the best known Rhizomatous form.

The Semperflorens type have a waxy foliage. The Tuberous Begonias are originally from South America, (Bolivia and Peru) and are grown for their showy flowers.

Where to grow Begonias

With such a large range we suggest that you always look for growing notes for begonias, all good nurseries should supply these. However, in general begonias do not like frost and do require some warmth.
