Athyrium Ferns

Athyrium Ferns are a hardy fern that can be successfully grown in pots. New cultivars such as Athyrium Ursula's Red with a tinge of red in the centre of the foliage and Athyrium 'Ghost' with its grey foliage and Athyrium Vidalii are all deciduous ferns and will reach 50 - 80cm.

Athyrium filix-femina (lady fern) will reach a height of around 1m, deciduous and hardy.

Growing well in part shade in a humus rich moist soil, Athyrium filix femina Frizelliae is a smaller growing plant to around 40 cm, narrow fronds and unusual.

Athyrium filix-femina 'Victoriae' is a slightly taller and very attractive cultivar.

Athyrium filix-femina var. angustatum 'Lady In Red' has brilliant red stems, a great addition to the garden

Species include: Athyrium niponicum var pictum.
