Often referred to as 'coral bells', Heuchera are clump forming perennial widely grown for their foliage with cultivars such as ' Plum Pudding' with its deep purple foliage and 'Caramel' with its caramel coloured foliage being standouts in the garden. Heuchera foliage provides welcome color and texture in the garden

Heuchera Obsidian has deep purple foliage and H, Americana with its green foliage with deep red veins are two others worth looking for.

Heuchera can easily be grown in containers if required, simply provide the same conditions and care as if you were growing them in the ground.

Heuchera Care

Heuchera care is not difficult if you remember that they do not like dry conditions. A humus rich moist but well drained soil in part shade is the best position. Afternoon sun should be avoided. Mulch well to maintain that moist cool root run and your Heuchera will generally thrive.

We like to mulch at the end of spring, we water well with a seaweed fertiliser before applying the mulch. You can deadhead to encourage repeat flowering if desired.

Division of Heuchera clumps every 3- 4 years is desirable, it is not only a good way to propagate new plants but it also reinvigorates older clumps.
