Passiflora caerulea and other species

All Passiflora are treated as tender climbing plants in the UK with Passiflora caerulea or 'Blue Passion Flower' being semi deciduous to deciduous depending on area and aspect.

To successfully grow these attractive flowering plants you do need a sunny sheltered position and a humus rich deep soil. These are a plant that do not like frost and extreme cold, so grow in a container and overwinter in a warm position.

So Passiflora 'Constance Elliot' is an attractive white flowers cultivar with a nice fragrance. As with all of these plants they climb using tendrils so they do need something to cling to. Like most of the ornamental types it will fruit but the fruit are not edible. Another white cultivar is 'White Lightning', the species Passiflora caerulea is the blue form.
