Leucojum autumnale - Autumn Snowflake

Leucojum autumnaleWith pretty white flowers that appear in late summer and continue into autumn Leucojum autumnale makes an excellent bulb for the border where it looks good in a large clump (10 -15 cm tall) or perhaps in a container.

The small white flowers hang gracefully from thin reddish stems. Grassy green foliage follows the flowers.

Now just to confuse everyone these plants have just been renamed as Acis autumnal.

The taller growing species Leucojum (Acis) autumnalis oporanthus will reach 20 -25 cm

Care and growing conditions

Requiring a humus rich well drained soil Leucojum autumnale will form a good clump over time and can also easily be propagated from seed if required. A position in full sun, perhaps in the rock garden is best. Larger clumps can be divided when dormant.
