Cypress Trees

Cypress Trees are popular both as screening trees and specimen trees. A number of varieties are well suited to growing in the UK garden.

When we think of Cypress Trees what often comes to mind is the very common Leyland Cypress. However many other varieties, suited to different purposes are readily available.

The Italian or Mediterranean Cypress, Cupressus sempervirens, tall and upright is an excellent selection not only for narrow spaces, but also for lining driveways on each side, and as a tall screening plant.

The lemon scented Montery Cypress, Cupressus macrocarpa with its lime green to golden, scented foliage makes an excellent specimen tree as well as a good screening plant.

Cupressus glabra 'Blue Ice' with its silver blue foliage and upright habit is smaller growing than many but a wonderful feature tree for the foliage color alone.

So with more Cypress trees Leylandii, many varieties make a useful addtion tothe garden, as feature plants, screeing plants or as a background plant in the border.
