Viola odorata 'alba'
Viola odorata 'alba' is a white flowering Sweet Violet. An excellent ground cover plant for shaded positions.
These are a slow spreading, semi evergreen, the colder it gets the more they are deciduous. The same pretty deep green heart shaped leaves, and they will form a dense mat. Flowers are small but fragrant and will appear in the time between late winter to spring. Try planting as a ground cover beneath roses.
Propagation
- You can buy potted plants for £2 - 3 , however if you have access they are easily propagated by division.
- Wait until the soil is softened by a few days rain, or water well before dividing if you are in a hurry.
- You will be amazed as to how many plants you will get from a good sized spade full.
- You could also try propagating from seed. A few named white cultivars are around, look for Viola odorata 'Brides White'.
