Privet Hedging

As a hedging plant Privet (ligustrum ovafoliam is the popular green privet) has been used widely in the UK for many years. Aa relatively fast growing screening or hedging plant that will grow in part shade to full sun. Not only used as a hedging plant it is also used for topiary where its small leaves and dense growing habit make useful. Privet hedging plants are available as bare rooted plants in winter or in pots and containers.

Popular because it forms such a dense hedge look for Ligustrum ovafolium 'Aureum' which has attractive variegated foliage.

Privet is widely used as a tough, versatile and hardy hedge. Regarded as evergreen to semi evergreen, this depends on the ferocity of the winter and the planting position. In a very cold winter they will loose some or even all of the foliage, however the same hedgerow in a sheltered spot may retain foliage.
