Clematis maximowicziana

An autumn flowering species Clematis maximowicziana (syn. C. ternifolia) is also known as the 'sweet clematis', the flowers have a sweet honey fragrance that fills the air on warm autumn days.

Also known as the Japanese clematis one of the great things about the species is its ability to flower in reasonably heavy shade.

Care

Excellent for covering a fence or when grown on a trellis where it will quickly reach 2 - 3m in height with a similar spread. A well drained soil is essential.

Drought tolerant once established, and easy care. Simply prune it back to around 40 - 80 cm at the end of winter before new growth commences.
