Pruning LavenderLavender is usually pruned twice, in late winter to early spring as soon as the frosts have gone is the time to hard prune. Depending on how you have maintained the plants yo can cut back to under 30cm (12inches). The hard pruning forces the bushy growth and prolific flowering. Cutting back into old wood is not advised, so regular hard pruning to maintain a low bushy plant is best. After flowering, remove spent flower heads, and lightly shape. but maintain as much foliage as possible for winter protection. Plant Lavender in early spring once the frosts are over and the soil has commenced to warm up. Remember that English Lavender is a little tougher than some of the other varieties.
